ABOUT
My name is Ciara Kyne and I am a science tutor with a PhD in Chemistry and over seven years of teaching experience in the University setting.

Through teaching in a variety of contexts, I have realised the power of imagery and question-led discussion in learning. I use these tools to provide concise, exam-focused lessons in a stress-free environment.

My goal is to instill knowledge, confidence, and tools for critical thinking in all of my students.

Good science stems from good questions. My classes are structured around a series of curriculum-based questions. A student's understanding can be gauged from their answers. We build on this understanding using customised, image-rich slide shows and worksheets that best suit the pace and abilities of the student.
All teaching materials are sent to the student and function as an effective study aid. Classes are flexible, relaxed and engaging. Student participation is welcome because it promotes a conversational tone.

Conversations and images are easier to recall in an exam than reams of text, making my lessons different, but an effective complement to, traditional teaching approaches.
I dedicate time, each lesson, to exam preparation. This involves answering exam-style questions and honing the exam technique.

Is tuition effective?
Studies show that tuition often moves students up by 1.5 grades. In my experience, various student types benefit from private tuition, for example those:

-
struggling to engage with the subject
-
requiring extra support for homework and assignment completion (removing the reliance on parents)
-
overwhelmed by the course and/or the prospect of exams
-
that generally perform well in class but require help with a specific concept or exam technique
If you feel your child might benefit from tuition please contact me for a free consultation.
Who travels?
Students don’t have to travel because my lessons are fully compatible with online platforms. Online lessons are often as effective as traditional face-to-face approaches and eliminate extra planning and travel time. All the student has to do is open the relevant software, the rest of the setup is done on my end.

Face-to-face lessons are also available and take place at my home or Anniesland library: quiet, distraction-free spaces.
What makes Clear-Cut Chemistry different?
My teaching style and the level of free, extra support which includes comprehensive study aids and corrections.
FAQ
"Our lessons had the perfect balance of content and exam questions - at the end of each lesson, exam questions related to the specific topic area were included. I found this way of teaching extremely effective. Throughout my lessons I felt myself linking all the concepts together and getting more exam savvy as my understanding of chemistry, as a subject, increased.

Throughout my experience the most important thing I found was that Ciara invested so much time and effort into making sure I truly understood what I was being taught and kept checking and asking me questions so I didn’t feel shy and was completely at ease - I think this is a very rare trait to find within a tutor. I would definitely recommend to any student who was in my position."
Ruman C, A Level Student

"Ciara is a very patient, considerate, kind, and supportive teacher who is organised and punctual. Without her lessons, I would not have achieved the grade I desired. I would highly recommend Ciara to anyone who is having any difficulty with chemistry."
Orla F, College Student
